Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) was passed to give parents increased control over what information is collected from their children online and how information is used. The law applies to websites and services directed to, and which knowingly collect information from, children under the age of 13. The credit union's website is not specifically directed to children under the age of 13, nor is information knowingly collected from them. Online account services are available to children under 13 with the express permission of a parent or guardian.
Advantage Financial FCU will only collect non-personal information as required by federal law from children under age 13 who wish to open an account with the credit union. A parent/guardian must be a joint owner on the account. The information collected and disclosed is that same as for any other member for the credit union as set forth above. Advantage Financial FCU will not collect, use or disclose additional online information received from children under age 13 without prior parental notification and consent, which will include an opportunity for the parent to prevent use of information and/or participation in an activity. Online information will only be used to respond directly to the child’s request and will not be used for other purposes without prior parental consent. In addition, Advantage Financial FCU will not entice children, by the prospect of a special game, prize or other activity, to divulge more information than is needed to participate in the activity.
Personally identifiable information that is collected online from their children may be reviewed by a parent or guardian upon written request. The parent or guardian has the right to have information deleted and instruct the Credit Union to cease collecting further information from their child.
